A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The winter break provide a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using deep breathing to refrain from yelling at loved ones. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling announcements emerged over the break, and should you overlooked any, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. But, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
