Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
