Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
